Job summary

Tarmac is recruiting a Multi Skilled Operative (Nightshift) for the Mountsorrel Asphalt Plant, ideally located for candidates from Loughborough, Leicester, Melton Mowbray and surrounding areas. This hands-on role focuses on asphalt production, RAP processing, and plant maintenance within a busy production environment.

You'll mix asphalt to specification, operate loading shovel, weighbridge, and support with daily targets while maintaining high safety and housekeeping standards.

Qualifications

• Previous asphalt or plant experience beneficial but not essential.
• Shovel licence desirable but not essential.
• IT literacy and full UK driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Mixing asphalt to specification.
• Production of RAP to specification.
• Weighbridge operations.
• Operating mobile plant including loading shovel.
• Support Supervisors with production targets.
• Carry out inspections and remedial actions.

Job description

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll play a key role in the safe, efficient day-to-day running of the RAP Yard, contributing to production targets and high-quality outputs. Your responsibilities will include:

• Mixing asphalt to specification
• Production of RAP to specification
• Working collaboratively to deliver quality materials and on-time customer deliveries
• Weighbridge operations
• Operating mobile plant including loading shovel
• Supporting Supervisors with daily and weekly production targets
• Carrying out inspections, identifying defects and implementing remedial actions
• Assisting with planned and reactive plant maintenance
• Ensuring housekeeping standards are consistently high
• Actively promoting and operating to Health, Safetee, Environmental and Quality standards

This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone who enjoys operational responsibility and being part of a production-focused team.

This role offers real variety, structured training, and development opportunities within a busy operational environment. Previous asphalt or plant experience is beneficial but not essential - we're more interested in your attitude, work ethic and willingness to learn. Working hours - Rotating shift pattern 5pm - 3am, Monday - Friday plus every other Saturday, We're keen to hear from candidates with experience in industrial, factory, manufacturing or similar operational environments, and from those who want to develop their technical and supervisory skills over time.

You'll ideally bring:

• Experience or interest in plant or mobile machinery operations
• Shovel licence(desirable but not essential)
• Excavator Licence(essential)
• A flexible, team-focused approach
• Motivation, good time keeping and strong work ethic
• Clear communication skills and confidence to escalation issues when needed
• IT literacy
• Full UK Driving Licence
