Job Title: Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical)

Location: Cheltenham

Shift: 3 Shift Rotation, between 5am-1am

Salary: £46,000

Role Purpose

To provide a reliable, hands‑on engineering service to the Cheltenham site, ensuring maximum plant uptime through effective fault‑finding, reactive maintenance and planned preventative maintenance. The role supports safe, efficient production within a fast‑paced commercial laundry environment.

What the Site Makes

The Cheltenham site processes and supplies:

  • Hospitality linen
  • Workwear and industrial garments
  • Specialist textile products for manufacturing customers

This is a high-volume, process-driven production environment with a strong focus on quality, efficiency and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and rectify faults across site plant and machinery
  • Carry out reactive maintenance to minimise downtime
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules
  • Support production teams to maintain output targets
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers on site
  • Escalate recurring issues and support continuous improvement
Electrical Responsibilities
  • Electrical fault finding on production machinery and plant
  • Working with control panels, motors, sensors and drives
  • Basic PLC fault‑finding and first‑line diagnostics
  • Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and drawings
  • Ensuring electrical work complies with site and statutory standards
Mechanical Responsibilities
  • Mechanical fault finding and repairs on rotating and static equipment
  • Working with gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, pumps and valves
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic system maintenance
  • Supporting mechanical strip‑downs, repairs and reinstatement
  • Identifying wear, failure trends and improvement opportunities
Machinery
  • Industrial washing and drying equipment
  • Automated conveyor and handling systems
  • Pressing, folding and finishing machinery
  • Pumps, motors, drives and ancillary plant
  • Compressed air and utility systems
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Work in line with all site H&S policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with electrical and mechanical safety standards
  • Follow permit‑to‑work and lock‑off / isolation procedures
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentationActively promote a safe working environment
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Completed apprenticeship (electrical, mechanical or controls)
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a fast‑paced manufacturing or production environment
  • Commercial laundry experience highly advantageous (not essential)
  • Strong multi‑skilled fault‑finding ability
  • Able to read engineering and electrical drawings
  • IT literate and comfortable with maintenance systems
  • Team‑focused with a practical, proactive attitude
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Must have Right to Work in the UK
