Job summary

Thames Water is seeking a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment at Ring Mains in Merton Wells. You will work with pumps, motors, VSDs, PLCs and control gear, ensuring sites stay operational with minimal supervision.

The role requires an electrical apprenticeship and up-skilling in mechanical NVQ, with a valid driving licence.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems in a multi-skilled capacity.
• Up-skilled with a mechanical qualification for inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosis, testing, installing, modifying or repairing mechanical and electrical plant.
• Willing to dual-skill to cover both mechanical and electrical needs.
• Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues.
• Physical fitness for confined spaces; training completed as required.
• Valid driving licence; vehicle and tools provided.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs quickly to avoid interruptions.
• Provide technical advice and training for trainees if required.
• Work with equipment such as pumps, 3‑phase motors, starters and controls, VSDs, PLCs, dosing equipment.
• Participate in a standby rota following relevant training.
