Job summary

Veolia Isle of Wight is seeking a seasoned plant operations leader to oversee the Mechanical Treatment and Material Recovery Facility, directing both operations and maintenance to maximise plant availability and production targets.

You will manage budgets, drive improvements, and ensure safety and environmental standards are met while coordinating multiple teams to optimise productivity and performance on site.

Qualifications

• Leadership and management experience in a large manufacturing/recycling facility.
• Experience with Health, Safety and Environmental compliance requirements.
• Strong technical knowledge of machinery and process equipment.
• Ability to manage budgets and drive cost savings.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven track record in continuous improvement and project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate MT/MRF operations and maintenance to meet plant targets.
• Ensure output specifications meet customer and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare and manage annual budget within approved revenue/cost limits.
• Plan for breakdowns and planned maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Drive improvement projects, plant efficiencies, and cost-saving initiatives.
• Record incidents and maintain KPIs for technical, operational and financial metrics.

What you'll be doing:

• Lead and coordinate all aspects of the Mechanical Treatment and Material Recovery Facility, both operations and maintenance, while overseeing the wider MT/MRF team to keep the plant running to maintain plant availability and production targets
• Ensure all output specifications are met in line with customer and regulatory requirements and manage operations against Veolia Minimum Requirements and site Environmental Permit
• Coordinate the operations and maintenance functions to deliver on financial and technical performance targets, including preparing an annual budget that works within an approved revenue, cost and profit
• Ensure robust plans are in place to manage plant breakdowns and planned maintenance requirements, minimise plant downtime and report on plant performance including budgets, CAPEX, plant availability and project progress
• Lead and contribute to improvement projects on site, deliver plant efficiencies and cost-saving solutions, and identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement
• Record and process accidents, incidents, significant close calls and audit/inspection non-conformities, and maintain and review technical, operational and financial KPIs

What we're looking for:

• Leadership and Management work experience with familiarity with Health and safety and Environmental legislation and requirements
• Previous experience leading a large manufacturing / recycling facility
• Experience of Health, Safety and Environmental compliance requirements and Waste Management experience
• Technical proficiency relating to machinery and process equipment with strong business acumen and financial management skills
• Effective communication and relationship management skills with ability to lead by example and demonstrate performance management and talent management
• Time management and informed decision making capabilities with continuous improvement and project management experience
• IT proficiency and ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams to optimise productivity and operational requirements
