Job summary

Veolia is seeking a Shift Team Leader at the Portsmouth Energy Recovery Facility. The role oversees a shift team, ensuring safe, compliant operation of the ERF from the central control room and on-site equipment.

40-hour weeks on a rota including weekends and public holidays; salary up to £64,376.47 with a 15% annual bonus and Veolia benefits. The successful candidate will lead engineering staff, uphold Health & Safety policies, and drive continuous improvement in operations at the facility in

Qualifications

• Operational experience in power generation or steam-raising plant environments.
• Experience leading and managing engineering teams on shift-based operations.
• Strong health and safety knowledge and safe systems of work.
• Understanding of environmental and safety legislation for Energy Recovery Facilities.
• Experience with rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Energy Recovery Facility, managing a shift team and day operations staff, ensuring compliance with all environmental permits.
• Operate / monitor plant from a central control room and operate plant and equipment as required by operational demands, including mobile plant and refuse crane.
• Supervise and deploy manpower to ensure cost effective, safe and efficient operation of all activities on site within procedures and in emergencies.
• Provide effective administration and application of the Safety Rules and Health and Safety policies.
• Provide technical supervision and assistance for Company and contract staff on site.

What will you be doing?

• To be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Energy Recovery Facility,managing a shift team and day operations staff, ensuring compliance with all aspects of the site environmental permits
• Operate / monitor plant from a central control room and operate plant and equipment as required by the operational demands of the ERF, including mobile plant and refuse crane
• Supervise and deploy manpower as appropriate to ensure cost effective, safe and efficient operation of all activities on site within all operational procedures and also in emergency situations
• Provide effective administration and application of the Safety Rules and Health and Safety policies
• Provide technical supervision and assistance where necessary for Company and contract staff engaged in work at the ERF

What are we looking for?

• Proven operational experience in Power Generation or Steam raising plant environments with technical plant knowledge
• Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams in an Engineering background with shift-based operations
• Strong technical background in Health & Safety awareness, including implementation of safe systems of work and permit-to-work procedures
• Comprehensive understanding of environmental and safety legislation applicable to Energy Recovery Facilities and power generation
• Previous experience working rotating shift patterns including days, nights, weekends and public holidays in a continuous operation environment
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively at all levels and produce clear, concise operational and incident reports
