Motorsports - Applied Vehicle Dynamics Team Support Engineer, Peterborough

Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring the successful candidate to report to Concord, NC three times per week at minimum.

The Role

We are seeking a Team Simulation Support Engineer to enhance our motorsports program by improving the utilization of our simulation toolchain across GM Motorsports-supported series. The primary goal is to provide engineering support that leads to improved on-track performance. Responsibilities include collaborating with race team members, conducting analysis studies using offline and driver-in-loop (DiL) simulations, developing and educating on offline simulation tools, providing feedback for simulation development, refining vehicle modeling inputs, and establishing baseline simulation settings. All projects should be completed to high standards, on time, and within budget. Proficiency in simulation tasks, proactive engagement, and a passion for accurate, efficient models are essential.

What You’ll Do
  • Serve as a key performance support engineer for GM Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup series.
  • Assist teams in fitting collected data for simulation input.
  • Collaborate to improve the simulation toolchain and enhance race team performance.
  • Provide expertise on simulation functionality and modeling practices.
  • Represent racing team needs in simulation development processes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of engineering industry experience.
  • 4+ years of professional motorsport experience within a race team setting.
  • Proficiency with data analysis software such as Pi Toolbox, MoTeC i2, and McLaren ATLAS.
  • Knowledge of high-performance vehicle, tire, and aerodynamic modeling techniques.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment with a strong work ethic and integrity.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to travel 10% of the time annually.

This role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience with driver-in-loop (DiL) simulators.
  • Proficiency in Dymola/Modelica within a simulation toolchain.
  • Familiarity with software development tools, preferably C# and Git.
