Motorsports - Applied Vehicle Dynamics Team Support Engineer, Cambridge

Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring the successful candidate to report to Concord, NC, at least three times per week.

The Role

To strengthen our motorsports program, we are seeking a Team Simulation Support Engineer to enhance our simulation toolchain across GM Motorsports-supported series. The primary goal is to provide engineering support that improves on-track performance. You will collaborate with race team members and GM support engineers to conduct analysis studies using offline and driver-in-loop (DiL) simulations. Additionally, you will assist in developing and educating offline simulation tools, facilitate team feedback to GM simulation development teams, contribute to vehicle modeling input refinement, and help establish baseline simulation settings for on-track events. All projects should be completed to high standards, on time, and within budget. Proficiency in simulation tasks, proactive engagement, and passion for accurate, efficient models are essential.

What You’ll Do
  • Serve as a key performance support engineer for GM Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup series.
  • Assist teams in fitting collected data for simulation input.
  • Collaborate to improve the simulation toolchain and enhance race team performance.
  • Provide expert knowledge on simulation functionality and modeling practices.
  • Represent racing team needs in the simulation development process.
Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of engineering industry experience.
  • 4+ years of professional motorsport experience within a race team setting.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software such as Pi Toolbox, MoTeC i2, and McLaren ATLAS.
  • Knowledge of high-performance vehicle, tire, and aerodynamic modeling techniques.
  • Strong analytical, customer-focused, and structured approach with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment with a strong work ethic and integrity.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to travel up to 10% annually.

This position may be eligible for relocation benefits.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience with driver-in-loop (DiL) simulators.
  • Proficiency in Dymola/Modelica within a simulation toolchain.
  • Familiarity with modern software development tools, such as C# and Git.
