Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring the successful candidate to report to Concord, NC at least three times per week.

The Role

We are seeking a Team Simulation Support Engineer to enhance our motorsports program by utilizing our simulation toolchain across GM-supported series. Your main goal will be to provide engineering support to improve on-track performance, collaborating with race teams and support engineers to conduct analysis using offline and driver-in-loop (DiL) simulations. You will also assist in developing simulation tools, gather team feedback for simulation development, refine vehicle models, and establish baseline settings for on-track events. All projects should be completed to high standards, on time, and within budget. Proficiency in simulation and a proactive attitude towards vehicle performance activities are essential.

Responsibilities
  1. Serve as a key performance support engineer for GM Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup series.
  2. Assist teams in fitting collected data into simulation models.
  3. Collaborate with the simulation support team to improve and explore new methods to enhance the simulation toolchain and race team performance.
  4. Provide expertise on simulation toolchain functionality and modeling practices to race teams.
  5. Represent racing team needs in the simulation development process.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience.
  • 4+ years of professional motorsport experience within a race team.
  • Proficiency with data analysis software such as Pi Toolbox, MoTeC i2, and McLaren ATLAS.
  • Knowledge of high-performance vehicle, tire, and aerodynamic modeling.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% per year.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience with driver-in-loop (DiL) simulators.
  • Proficiency with Dymola/Modelica, C#, and Git.
