Client: Local Authority in Dagenham

Job Title: Motor Technician

Pay Rate: £22.02 an hour PAYE / £28 an hour UMBRELLA

Hours: 35 Hours a week (Mon-Fri) 9AM-5PM

Duration: Initial 8 week contract

Location: Fully Office/Site based- 5 days a week from Frizlands Lane Depot, Rainham Road, Dagenham

Position Summary

Job Purpose: To undertake a full range of repairs and maintenance to Council vehicles, plant and equipment, this will include attending roadside breakdowns and undertake repairs in accordance with DVSA guide to Roadworthiness. To complete service repair records to vehicles or equipment undertaken. To ensure that all health and safety requirements and risk assessments are carried out and recorded within the workshop.

Specific Accountabilities of the Role
  • Carry out complicated major repairs and preventative maintenance, including fault finding and diagnostic testing to high value motor vehicles, contractors' plant and ground machinery powered by petrol, gas or electricity, together with associated equipment.
  • Carry out repairs including fault finding and diagnostic testing to vehicle electrics, hydraulics and pneumatics, especially those fitted to a range of specialist vehicles such as vehicle tail lifts and air conditioning, refuse and road sweepers, buses and coaches, plant and mowing machines, tractors, machinery carrying household, commercial and sewage waste.
  • Responsible and accountable for the completion of service and repair records in line with DVSA requirements.
  • To carry out electrical diagnostics and repairs in line with manufacturers guidelines.
  • To undertake body repairs utilising the council's equipment including welders, MIG, TIG and ARC.
  • Complete repairs to hydraulic systems in accordance with manufacturers guidelines.
  • To ensure that service records are kept and maintained in accordance with requirements and guidelines.
