Job description

Location: Flexible / Hybrid

Start Date: Ideally from March (earlier appointment welcomed)

Engagement: Ongoing, flexible commitment

We are seeking a mid-level commercial lawyer to support a growing banking and financial services function with a strong cross-border focus. This role is ideal for a lawyer who enjoys working across jurisdictions, advising on complex commercial and technology-driven arrangements, and collaborating with international stakeholders.

The Role

You will support a Spanish-focused (and wider international) workstream, advising on a broad range of commercial and technology contracts within a regulated banking environment. The role combines hands‑on contract negotiation with legal issue‑spotting in regulated areas, working closely with business teams and external counsel where required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of commercial and tech-related agreements, including:
  • Procurement and supplier agreements
  • SaaS and technology services contracts
  • Partnerships and strategic collaborations
  • Payments, fintech, and financial crime-related arrangements
  • Emerging technology and AI-related agreements
  • Supporting the business by leveraging existing supplier frameworks, adapting contracts to ensure they are fit for purpose under local law through tailored amendments or addenda.
  • Liaising with Spanish-speaking counterparties and suppliers, particularly in payments, fintech, HR, and compliance-related areas.
  • Identifying and spotting legal and regulatory issues under Spanish banking and payments law, escalating to and coordinating with local law firms where deeper specialist advice is required.
  • Reviewing and negotiating English-law governed contracts with Spanish and international counterparties, ensuring local regulatory considerations are appropriately addressed.
  • Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
About You
  • Qualified lawyer with 3–6 years’ post‑qualification experience, ideally within banking, financial services, or fintech.
  • Strong background in commercial contracts, with exposure to technology and digital services agreements.
  • Fluent Spanish (written and spoken) is essential; experience working across borders is a must.
  • Solid understanding of payments and financial services regulation, with the ability to identify key risks and issues even where external counsel will provide detailed advice.
  • Comfortable balancing autonomy with collaboration, and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Pragmatic, solutions-oriented, and confident engaging with both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
