Mental Health Act Manager

The closing date is 07 October 2025

The role will manage the systems, structures, processes and staff that are in place to support the operation of the Mental Health Act 1983, ensuring compliance with the Code of Practice and associated legislation.

Main duties of the job

The role will assist in the development and drafting of Trust policies and procedures in relation to mental health legislation and will ensure the dissemination of the same to all relevant managers and staff groups.

The role will maintain, enhance and develop operational reporting requirements to the Mental Health Act Committee.

The role will provide highly specialist advice and support to both Senior Management colleagues and clinical staff in relation to the Mental Health Act 1983 and associated legislation.

The post holder will hold managerial responsibility for the locality based Mental Health Act offices in Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire.

They will report to and be support by the Medical Directorate Business Manager

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Educated to Degree level in a related subject or ability to demonstrate skills at this level.
  • Further educational development at Masters level in Mental Health Law
Experience
  • In depth experience of working with the MHA legislation
  • Substantial experience in management within a health setting.
  • Experience of providing complex specialist multi-disciplinary training
  • Experience in writing and reviewing policy based on MHA codes of practice.
Knowledge / Skills
  • Highly specialist knowledge equivalent to degree level of mental health act, HRA, case law in theory and practice.
  • High level of computer literacy and key board skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to implement and manage change
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Audit skills and experience.
