3>Medical Laboratory Assistant

Medical Laboratory Assistant- Band 2 - average 37.5 hours per week covering 24/7 rota if required - Permanent

Applications are invited to work in our busy Blood Sciences Department as a Medical Laboratory Assistant working in Sample Reception.

Tameside Hospitalis situated eight miles to the east of Manchester and serves a population of approximately 250,000. The hospital is situated for both easy access to both central Manchester and the Peak District.

Duties will include preparing and processing clinical specimens of blood, urine, faeces, sputum and other body tissues. In addition this will include dealing with reception and telephone queries from staff, GPs and other users of the Pathology Service, computer data input and filing.

The role will involve handling large numbers of specimens for various sections of the laboratory.

A good knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems will be advantageous though not mandatory, with good communication and organisational skills. Full training will be provided along with on-going assessment and support.

The laboratory is UKAS ISO15189 Accredited

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant the post holder will assist the biomedical scientists in providing a quality medical laboratory service preparing and processing clinical specimens of blood, urine, faeces and other body tissues. Dealing with reception and telephone queries from staff, GPs and other users of the Pathology Service.
