Job summary

Mars Petcare in Melton Mowbray is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to keep automated systems running, troubleshoot complex machinery, and lead a small team. You will work with high-speed food processing equipment, ABB/Kuka robotics, and SAP maintenance tools while driving downtime reductions and safety improvements.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Experience in FMCG/manufacturing environments.
• Proven problem-solving skills including Root Cause Analysis.
• Proficient with Excel, PI ProcessBook and SAP PM.
• Strong leadership and ability to coach others.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance automated electromechanical systems across the meat processing line.
• Diagnose breakdowns and implement timely resolutions to reduce downtime.
• Lead by example and coach colleagues, sharing technical knowledge.
• Drive small improvements and contribute to continuous innovation.
• Participate in risk assessments and uphold safety standards (ISO 14000, PTW, Hot Work).
• Facilitate clear communication between operations and technical teams.
• Develop talent through training and technical mentoring.

What We’re Looking For

• Technical qualifications: Minimum HNC/HND in mechanical engineering or a related field, backed by practical experience
• Experience in FMCG or manufacturing environments: You know how to troubleshoot and maintain complex mechanical systems.
• Proven problem-solving skills: You excel at Root Cause Analysis and fault finding.
• Technical proficiency: Skilled in using Microsoft Excel, PI Process Book, and SAP Planned Maintenance.
• Leadership & teamwork: You thrive in a collaborative setting, with the ability to coach and inspire others.

• Keep things running smoothly: Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance automated, electromechanical systems – from refrigeration systems to meat processing equipment, conveyors, and fluid systems.
• Be the problem solver: Diagnose breakdowns and ensure timely resolutions, reducing downtime to boost productivity.
• Team leader & technical coach: Lead by example and support your colleagues, sharing your technical expertise to elevate the team.
• Drive improvement: Take on small-scale improvements, actively contributing to continuous innovation and efficiency.
