Job summary

Mars Petcare UK’s Melton Mowbray site is at the heart of UK pet food manufacturing, producing beloved brands like PEDIGREE and WHISKAS. We are hiring a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a fast-paced, high‑tech environment where your work makes an impact every day.

You'll lead maintenance on automated systems, use tools like Excel, PI Process Book and SAP Planned Maintenance, and help coach colleagues.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC/HND in mechanical engineering with practical experience.
• Experience in FMCG or manufacturing environments.
• Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis capabilities.
• Proficiency in Excel, PI ProcessBook and SAP Planned Maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Keep systems running: maintain and troubleshoot automated electromechanical equipment.
• Diagnose breakdowns and implement timely resolutions to reduce downtime.
• Lead by example and coach colleagues, sharing technical knowledge.
• Drive small-scale improvements for efficiency and safety.
• Support safety and risk assessments, ensuring standards are met.
• Communicate effectively between operations and technical teams.
• Develop future engineers through training and mentoring.

• Technical qualifications: Minimum HNC/HND in mechanical engineering or a related field, backed by practical experience
• Experience in FMCG or manufacturing environments: You know how to troubleshoot andmaintaincomplex mechanical systems.
• Proven problem-solving skills: You excel at Root Cause Analysis and fault finding.
• Technicalproficiency: Skilled in using Microsoft Excel, PI Process Book, and SAP Planned Maintenance.
• Leadership & teamwork: You thrive in a collaborative setting, with the ability to coach and inspire others.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep things running smoothly:Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance automated, electromechanical systems – from refrigeration systems to meat processing equipment, conveyors, and fluid systems.
• Be the problem solver: Diagnose breakdowns and ensuretimelyresolutions, reducing downtime to boost productivity.
• Team leader & technical coach: Lead by example and support your colleagues, sharing your technicalexpertiseto elevate the team.
• Drive improvement: Take on small-scale improvements, actively contributing to continuous innovation and efficiency.
• Champion safety:Participatein risk assessments and ensure all activities adhere to safety standards (ISO 14000, PTW, Hot Work, etc.).
