Job summary

Mars Petcare's Melton Mowbray factory is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to maintain high-speed food processing systems, troubleshoot complex machinery, and lead performance improvements. You will tackle downtime, optimise equipment, and coach team members in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC/HND in mechanical engineering, with practical experience.
• Experience in FMCG or manufacturing environments and equipment maintenance.
• Strong problem-solving skills, root-cause analysis, and fault finding.
• Proficiency with Excel, PI Process Book, and SAP Planned Maintenance.
• Leadership and teamwork abilities in a collaborative setting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimise automated electromechanical systems including conveyors and refrigeration.
• Diagnose breakdowns and implement timely solutions to reduce downtime.
• Lead by example and coach colleagues to build technical capability.
• Pursue small-scale improvements and drive continuous efficiency.
• Support safety and risk assessments in line with standards.

What We’re Looking For

• Technical qualifications: Minimum HNC/HND in mechanical engineering or a related field, backed by practical experience
• Experience in FMCG or manufacturing environments: You know how to troubleshoot and maintain complex mechanical systems.
• Proven problem-solving skills: You excel at Root Cause Analysis and fault finding.
• Technical proficiency: Skilled in using Microsoft Excel, PI Process Book, and SAP Planned Maintenance.
• Leadership & teamwork: You thrive in a collaborative setting, with the ability to coach and inspire others.

Key Responsibilities

• Keep things running smoothly: Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance automated, electromechanical systems – from refrigeration systems to meat processing equipment, conveyors, and fluid systems.
• Be the problem solver: Diagnose breakdowns and ensure timely resolutions, reducing downtime to boost productivity.
• Team leader & technical coach: Lead by example and support your colleagues, sharing your technical expertise to elevate the team.
• Drive improvement: Take on small-scale improvements, actively contributing to continuous innovation and efficiency.
• Champion safety: Participate in risk assessments and ensure all activities adhere to safety standards (ISO 14000, PTW, Hot Work, etc.).
• Collaborative communication: Be the bridge between operations and technical teams, ensuring clear and effective communication at all times.
