Certain Advantage is partnering with a key client to recruit a Mechanical Handling Engineer. You’ll support mechanical handling and building services projects across nuclear and non‑nuclear facilities, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operation of cranes, lifting equipment, and maintenance assets.

What will you be doing?

Support the Mechanical Engineering Lead with design, maintenance, and modification of mechanical handling systems.

Scope and deliver mechanical designs and upgrades across the full project lifecycle.

Maintain technical documentation, drawings, and compliance records.

Collaborate across disciplines during installation, commissioning, and testing phases.

Provide technical input to risk assessments and progress reports.

A couple of things you should know :
  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s or CEng preferred).
  • 3+ years’ experience in a regulated industry (nuclear, defence, maritime, infrastructure, or oil & gas).
  • Knowledge of cranes, lifting systems, and mechanical building services.
  • Skilled in mechanical design, FEA, and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
During an interview, you may be asked about :
  • Your experience of cranes / lifting equipment and crane operations, especially safety critical and safety related systems.
  • Your knowledge of electrical / mechanical / hydraulic systems as typical to cranes and hauling equipment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical building services, including HVAC, compressed air, water systems and thermal / fluid systems.
