Mechanical / Electrical Technician

Location: Norwich
Reporting to: Workshop Manager
Salary: £38,000 - £42,000 depending on experience

This is a hands‑on Mechanical / Electrical Technician role within a bespoke manufacturing environment producing custom‑engineered, one‑off and low‑volume solutions. The role suits an experienced, multi‑skilled technician who enjoys variety, problem‑solving, and working on technically challenging projects where no two jobs are the same. You will support the manufacture of mechanical assemblies from concept through to build, contributing to prototype development, production runs and continuous improvement while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and client satisfaction.

The Role
  • Assemble high‑quality mechanical components, sub‑assemblies and frameworks using hand and power tools
  • Read and interpret CAD models and detailed engineering drawings
  • Assist with wiring LEDs, sensors and control panels
  • Provide technical input during prototype builds and production runs
  • Identify and resolve design or process issues to maintain project timelines
  • Recommend practical and innovative solutions to complex mechanical challenges
  • Ensure designs meet functional, safety and compliance requirements
  • Work closely with subcontract machinists, fabricators and suppliers to support manufacturability
  • Communicate technical information clearly to internal teams
  • Support client reviews and incorporate feedback into design iterations
  • Ensure all products meet internal quality standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental policies
  • Check and maintain lifting and air equipment in line with HSE regulations
  • Support adherence to ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards and continuous quality improvement
  • Promote safe working practices and wellbeing across all operations
Skills, Experience & Personal Requirements
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and technical documentation
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment
  • Excellent planning, prioritisation and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal ability
  • Understanding and experience of Health & Safety practices
  • Ability to support, develop and train others when required
  • Mechanical / Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship (Level 3 or above)
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience within a mechanical and electrical manufacturing environment
  • Able to commute reliably to the Norwich site
  • Some travel may be required, therefore willingness to stay away one or two nights per month if required
  • Flexible approach to working hours and overtime
  • Clean or near‑clean driving licence

Hours & Holiday

Monday to Friday, 08:00‑17:00 (lunch 13:00‑13:30)
Overtime expected in line with production requirements
Seasonal variation: extended hours in winter, reduced hours in summer
24 days annual leave (including 3‑4 days taken during the Christmas shutdown) plus public holidays
