Please note, at this stage, the role is open only to internal staff (including NHSP and Agency staff currently on placement within our organisation) and staff substantively employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts and the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB). Any individual who is at risk of redundancy will be given priority, provided they meet the essential criteria.

Role Overview

Kent & Medway Mental Health NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Community Matron in East Kent Directorate. The post holder will be accountable to the Head of Nursing and Quality, be a member of the Governance Team, and work closely with the Service Director, General and Service Managers across community services. Matrons promote high‑quality care, reduce health inequalities, support workforce retention and staff development, and enhance patient safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the highest standards of clinical care and quality by daily presence in teams, professional curiosity, and expert knowledge of care delivery.
  • Be visible to service users and carers, problem‑solve, and resolve issues, attending governance incident huddles and collaborating on risk mitigation plans.
  • Take a facilitative and empowering approach, nurturing creativity and embracing innovative solutions to improve service user, carer and staff experience.
  • Work closely with other Heads of Nursing and Quality, Matrons, Governance Lead and Officer to triangulate and validate quality data.
  • Maximise digital solutions where possible.
  • Provide assurance to Head of Nursing and Quality that the Directorate delivers safe care and actively engages in quality assurance, improvement and risk management processes.
  • Support and develop staff to fulfil their roles, ensuring teams are engaged in continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Full, valid UK driving licence and access to a car/vehicle for business purposes.
  • Internal staff status: NHSP or Agency staff currently on placement within the Trust, or staff substantively employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts and the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB).
  • Priority given to individuals at risk of redundancy.
