Job summary

Government Recruitment Service is seeking a Small Craft Surveyor (Naval Architect) in Coleraine to survey and inspect small and non-convention vessels, ensuring compliance with UK and international safety, security and environmental standards.

You will issue certification, provide expert technical advice to vessel owners and industry colleagues, and help deliver a high-quality survey and inspection service across the MCA.

Qualifications

• Survey and inspect small and non-convention vessels to ensure compliance with UK and international safety, security and environmental standards.
• Issue certification and provide expert technical advice to vessel owners and industry colleagues.
• Maintain accurate personal training and competence records, and complete MCA training to keep skills up to date.

Responsibilities

• As directed by the Technical Manager or Principal Marine Surveyor, provide training to or mentor Marine Surveyor colleagues on MCA Survey & Inspection activities to ensure consistent application of MCA standards.
• Lead surveys in non-complex cases and issue statutory certificates for small vessels; advise the public and colleagues and witness stability measurements.
• Inspect small/non-convention vessels and port installations to ensure compliance with international conventions and UK requirements.
• Act as point of contact for technically related communications with designated companies or vessel owners; support a high-quality survey and inspection service.
• Assist the Technical Manager in maintaining training records and ensuring ongoing competence and impartiality.
