Qualifications

• Survey and inspect small and non-convention vessels to ensure compliance with UK and international safety, security and environmental standards.
• Issue certification and provide expert technical advice to vessel owners and industry colleagues.

Responsibilities

• As directed by the Technical Manager or Principal Marine Surveyor, give training to or coach Marine Surveyor colleagues on MCA Survey and Inspection activities to ensure consistent implementation.
• Carry out surveys in all but the most complex cases leading to the issue of statutory certificates for small/non-convention vessels; act as lead surveyor in less complex cases including issuing certification and advising the public and colleagues.
• Carry out inspections of small/non-convention vessels and port installations to ensure compliance with international conventions and UK statutory requirements.
• Provide advice to industry and the public according to MCA policies and act as point of contact for communications with vessel owners and designated companies.
• Contribute to delivering a first-class survey and inspection service by the Marine Office to customers and stakeholders; work with the MO teams to ensure excellent customer service.
