Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is expanding its defence maritime safety capability. We seek a skilled safety engineer to support safe design, integration and operation of naval capabilities across surface ships, submarines and naval systems.

You will contribute to safety cases, hazard logs and through-life risk management, collaborating with operators, delivery teams and assurance authorities to ensure coherent platform safety arguments.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience delivering safety engineering or safety assurance in a defence maritime environment.
• Knowledge of surface ships, submarines, maritime engineering, naval operations or platform systems.
• Understanding of systems engineering and the engineering lifecycle, with the ability to analyse technical information and communicate findings clearly.
• Collaborative, curious and delivery-focused approach, with the confidence to ask questions and seek support.
• A relevant degree, maritime qualification or equivalent experience gained in defence, the Armed Forces or industry.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to safety engineering and assurance across procurement, design, integration, acceptance, in-service support and modification of naval platforms and systems.
• Help ensure equipment and system-level safety evidence supports platform-level safety cases.
• Develop and maintain hazard logs and safety documentation.
• Assess safety implications of equipment integration, configuration changes, maintenance, upgrades and operational use.
• Support compliance with Defence Maritime Regulations and risk control systems.
• Produce clear technical reports and safety information for delivery teams and authorities.
• Collaborate with naval delivery teams, system authorities, operators, maintainers and suppliers.
