Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a versatile safety engineer to join our defence capability across air, land, and maritime programmes. You will deliver safety engineering and assurance activities, develop safety cases, hazard logs and risk management across complex defence projects.

You will apply structured safety methods, engage with clients and partners, and support continuous learning and professional registration.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience delivering safety engineering or safety assurance in a defence environment, including contributing to safety cases, safety assessments, hazard logs or structured risk-management activities.
• Understanding of systems engineering and the engineering lifecycle, with ability to analyse technical information and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborative, curious and delivery-focused approach, with the confidence to ask questions and seek support when needed.
• A relevant degree, technical qualification or demonstrable equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safety engineering and assurance activities across complex defence programmes, applying structured safety methods and producing clear evidence.
• Support the development, maintenance and delivery of safety cases, safety assessments and safety management plans.
• Create and maintain hazard logs; support hazard identification, risk assessment and risk-reduction activities.
• Develop clear safety arguments and manage the evidence needed to support acceptance and operation.
• Contribute to safety working groups, assurance reviews, audits and multidisciplinary engineering decisions.
