Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is expanding its defence maritime safety capability. We seek an experienced maritime safety engineer to lead assurance across surface ships, submarines and naval systems, shaping safety strategies and integrating evidence for procurement, acceptance and in-service support.

You will lead safety cases, risk assessments and ALARP demonstrations, coordinate with naval authorities and deliver defensible, evidence-based safety arguments across platforms and systems.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience delivering safety engineering or safety assurance in defence maritime.
• Strong experience of surface ships, submarines, maritime engineering, naval systems.
• Experience leading safety cases, safety assessments, hazard-management activities or technically complex work packages.
• Sound knowledge of systems engineering with technical judgement for proportionate, defensible solutions.
• Confident client-facing communication, stakeholder management and production of high-quality technical deliverables.
• A relevant degree, maritime qualification or demonstrable equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead maritime safety work packages for enterprise, platform or system level across the naval capability lifecycle.
• Bring evidence together to form coherent safety arguments and advise on regulatory compliance.
• Lead the development and assurance of Safety and Environmental Cases, risk assessments and hazard logs.
• Shape claims and arguments combining equipment-, system- and supplier-level evidence.
• Provide technical direction on safety interfaces, configuration management and operational change.
• Advise delivery teams, design authorities and regulators on regulatory compliance and assurance.
• Lead or support assurance against Defence Maritime Regulations and platform-certification activity.
• Review outputs and promote current, usable safety information across life-cycle.
• Identify emerging client needs and support follow-on work.
