Job summary

Overview

Personal Care Assistants / Support Workers are required to assist a young adult male with Autism, Epilepsy and Severe Communication Disorder living in the Ferniegair – Hamilton area. You would provide one-to-one care and assistance within the family home and in the community.

Responsibilities

• Attending to all personal care needs (showering, toileting, shaving, brushing teeth)
• Preparing meals and healthy snacks (assistance with eating)
• Assistance with traveling to and from college
• Walking, cycling, football and assisting with participation in these physical activities
• Moving and assisting - pushing manual wheelchair
• Any other daily living tasks to promote independent living

Driver essential and you will be required to use your own vehicle – mileage allowance will be paid.

Requirements and Qualities

• Must take a proactive and innovative approach to support and encourage the individual to be involved in activities suited to their needs
• Favourite activities include drawing and colouring pictures, watching Disney clips on YouTube, swimming, listening to music, horse riding, sensory experiences
• Experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided
• The most important qualities are a warm and friendly nature and a desire to work within a caring role
• Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential
