Maintenance and Facilities Assistant
Purpose
To undertake building maintenance and facilities duties at the Shaftesbury Theatre, a grade II listed building which includes general day to day repairs, planned maintenance and debris removal. This will involve practical duties and working/liaison with sub-contractors in delegated areas. The role also requires experience in plumbing and drainage, including identifying and resolving leaks, maintaining drainage systems, and ensuring water systems function efficiently. Their line manager is the Maintenance and Facilities Manager.
The Maintenance and Facilities Team plays a critical role in keeping the Theatre in a fit and functioning state that is to the satisfaction of the Company, producers and those who hire the Theatre for other functions. It is an essential role that ensures that the individuals and companies who work in Theatre are able to carry out their tasks without undue impediment and that the Theatre is presented in the best condition at all times.
Duties
· To provide a first-class level of maintenance of all the building fabric and equipment in the Shaftesbury Theatre
· To contribute to devising, reviewing and operating the maintenance procedures to ensure that they are efficient and effective at all times.
· To undertake work, as appropriate, on fabric of the building and equipment to ensure it is efficient, safe and in keeping with its listed status. Ensuring adherence to operational procedures, effective routine maintenance, cleaning and implementation of any agreed programme of replacement.
· To carry out regular maintenance inspections of the building to ensure that all areas are maintained to the highest standards reporting any shortcomings as appropriate to the Maintenance and Facilities Manager.
· To assist in maintaining all public areas to the highest standards. Undertaking appropriate tasks to ensure high standards of cleanliness and repair and reporting areas that require the attention of other departments and/or contractors.
· To assist in carrying out and recording the Theatre’s mandated checks and inspections to meet its Legal obligations.
· To be familiar with the Theatre’s software and reporting systems and to ensure they are kept up to date
· To assist in the maintenance of DLT Entertainment offices at 10 Bedford Square
· To ensure that all activities are carried out to the highest standard.
· To maintain adequate stocks of parts, hardware and general supplies for the maintenance of the building.
· To assist in the delivery of the Theatre’s Environmental Objectives.
· To work on any special project or reasonable activity as identified by the Operations Director.
· To support the Theatre’s communication objectives by sharing information with colleagues as appropriate whilst respecting confidentiality so that you and your colleagues have all the information you need to perform your duties effectively.
· To comply with all Theatre of Comedy Company policies, including the Equal Opportunities and Electronic Communications and Data Protection policies.
Person Specification
Numerically literate
The ability to work to tight deadlines
Plumbing and Draining skills with at least 2-3 years experience
Good general decoration, carpentry and maintenance skills
The ability to communicate effectively at all levels
The ability to work under pressure
A flexible attitude to working patterns
The ability to take initiative
To be a team player
Knowledge and/or qualifications in:
Painting
Working at height
Health and Safety
Previous experience of working on a listed building
A passion for Theatre
