Job summary

AWD Online is seeking a Librarian for Hedge End, Southampton, with 20 hours per week during term time. No library experience required as a comprehensive induction and mentor are provided.

Responsibilities include managing loans, assisting students, promoting reading and supporting curriculum use of library resources. First Aid and safeguarding commitment are essential, and benefits include staff development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Genuine interest in education, books, reading and literature.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Good organisation and ability to manage tasks accurately.
• Friendly, helpful and confident when dealing with students, staff and visitors.
• Comfortable learning library systems, ICT and other technology.
• Willingness to learn, develop and undertake relevant training.
• First Aid certificate.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Welcome students and staff; respond to enquiries and provide helpful support with available resources.
• Manage loan and reference collections; keep the Learning Resource Centre organised.
• Input catalogue information; classify books and review stock and loan system.
• Promote reading for pleasure; organise reading groups and book clubs.
• Support curriculum use of library resources and information-handling skills.
• Create displays and promotional materials for books, services and events.
• Support ICT use and report equipment issues; maintain a safe environment.
• Provide First Aid support when required and deputise for the First Aid room.
• Participate in relevant training and ongoing professional development.
