Job summary

Long Term Futures is seeking a compassionate Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join a well-established SEN School in Birmingham, supporting children and young people aged 5–19 with a range of additional needs.

This full-time, long-term temp-to-perm role runs for the full academic year with weekly pay and access to free CPD opportunities, including Autism Awareness, Team Teach, and Behaviour Management. A DBS check will be completed.

Qualifications

  • SEN experience and understanding of diverse needs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of ASC/SEMH/ADHD/MLD/SLD/Complex Needs.
  • Patience, empathy and resilience in supporting pupils.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils aged 5–19 with a range of Special Educational Needs.
  • Support pupils to access a personalised curriculum within an inclusive environment.
  • Assist with EHCPs and individual learning targets implementation.
  • Encourage independence, communication, and social development through engaging activities.
  • Support emotional regulation and promote positive behaviour using consistent strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to meet individual needs.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff.
  • Assist with personal care where required, ensuring pupils' dignity and wellbeing.

Long Term Futures is seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join a well-established SEN School in Birmingham, supporting children and young people aged 5–19 years with a range of additional needs.

This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to work alongside a highly experienced team, helping pupils with complex learning needs to thrive both academically and personally. The school caters for pupils with a variety of Special Educational Needs, including Autism (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Complex Needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

We are looking for someone who holds a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification and has a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

About the Role

Working closely with teachers, therapists, and the wider SEN support team, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils aged 5–19 with a range of Special Educational Needs
  • Supporting pupils to access a personalised curriculum within a nurturing and inclusive environment
  • Assisting with the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual learning targets
  • Encouraging independence, communication, and social development through engaging learning activities
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and promoting positive behaviour using consistent strategies
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to meet the individual needs of each pupil
  • Monitoring pupil progress and providing regular feedback to teaching staff
  • Assisting with personal care where required, ensuring pupils' dignity and wellbeing are maintained at all times
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of Autism (ASC), SEMH, ADHD, MLD, SLD, or Complex Needs
  • Patient, caring, and resilient, with a positive and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to build trusting relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
  • Reliable, proactive, and committed to making a long-term difference in pupils' lives
