Job summary

Long Term Futures is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Birmingham, supporting students with SEND and helping them access learning throughout the day.

You’ll work closely with teaching staff, SENCo and pastoral teams to provide 1:1 and small group support, assist with structured lessons, manage behaviour, and help pupils progress academically and socially in a long‑term, temp‑to‑perm role.

  • Experience with secondary-aged pupils with SEND.
  • Calm, patient, resilient in challenging situations.
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Reliable and committed to a long-term role.

Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with SEND
  • Supporting pupils within lessons and in alternative learning environments
  • Assisting with the delivery of structured and engaging lessons
  • Implementing strategies to support behaviour, engagement, and learning
  • Supporting students with emotional regulation and transitions between lessons
  • Monitoring progress and behaviour, providing feedback to staff where appropriate
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive social interactions
  • Working collaboratively with staff to support individual learning plans

Learning Support Assistant

Birmingham (accessible via public transport, with a short walk for non-drivers). £110-£115 per day. Start Date: ASAP. Contract: Full-time, long-term temp-to-perm (Full Academic Year).

Long Term Futures is recruiting for a committed and proactive Learning Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Birmingham, supporting students with SEND. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

This role will focus on supporting secondary‑aged pupils, many of whom have additional needs such as Autism, ADHD, and SEMH, who often require tailored support and consistent guidance throughout the school day.

About the Role

Working closely with teaching staff, the SENCo, and pastoral teams, responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with SEND
  • Supporting pupils within lessons and in alternative learning environments
  • Assisting with the delivery of structured and engaging lessons
  • Implementing strategies to support behaviour, engagement, and learning
  • Supporting students with emotional regulation and transitions between lessons
