Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a proactive Duty Manager for its leisure centres in Tadcaster and Selby. The role covers day-to-day operations, safety, and commercial activity across two hubs, with occasional cross-site work and shift flexibility.

You will lead the team, manage pool plant systems, ensure high standards of customer care, and support the wider service in delivering a safe, enjoyable experience for visitors.

Qualifications

• Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and evenings.
• Awareness of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
• Awareness of health and safety practices.
• Leisure industry experience desirable but not essential; covers wet and dry facilities.
• Qualification relevant to the leisure industry or equivalent experience.
• Recognised Pool Lifeguard Qualification (RLSS).
• First Aid at Work Certificate.
• Pool Plant Operator Qualification.
• Trainer Assessor qualification to deliver lifeguard staff training is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day to day delivery of leisure centre operations ensuring a safe, welcoming environment.
• Prioritise health and safety in line with policies and standards.
• Support income-generating activities and deliver a value for money service.
• Oversee pool plant filtration and chemical treatment systems on a budget.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, service and operational excellence.
• Respond to building or equipment issues and lead initial emergency responses.
• Handle daily cash and financial reconciliation with accuracy.
• Occasionally deputise across other operational roles.
• Provide resilience by working across both Selby and Tadcaster sites on a rota.
