Legal Officer

Location: Belfast (office-based)
Salary: £37,694 - £38,990
Hours: 37 per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)
Contract: Initial 3 months (possibility of extension, subject to budget)

Overview

A temporary opportunity has arisen for a Legal Officer to join the Legal Services Directorate within a respected public body. This role is equivalent to Staff Officer grade and will involve providing professional legal support across a range of casework and advisory matters.

Working as part of an established legal team, the post-holder will support the delivery of the Commission's statutory functions, with a particular focus on areas such as discrimination, equality and employment law.

This position is office-based and offers an excellent opportunity for a qualified solicitor to gain further experience within a specialist legal environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and assistance on a range of matters, particularly those relating to discrimination and employment law.
  • Prepare case files, correspondence, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the drafting of legal submissions, opinions and other documentation as required.
  • Support the investigation and progression of legal complaints.
  • Liaise with clients, solicitors, counsel, and other agencies as appropriate.
The Ideal Candidate

Applicants must:

  • Hold a current practising certificate issued by the Law Society of Northern Ireland.
  • Demonstrate experience in providing legal advice or casework in areas such as discrimination law, employment law, or related fields.
  • Possess strong communication and drafting skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload.
  • Work effectively within a team in a busy legal office environment.
