About the role

With the Travel & Tourism sector set to break records this year and growth across all areas of the industry, we have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and enthusiastic individual to join our travel teaching team.

The Travel & Tourism learning area offers vocational programmes at Level 2 and Level 3 at our Highbury Campus.

A successful candidate will work collaboratively within the travel team to teach and assess a range of Travel and Tourism topics and programmes, including sector components, worldwide destinations, locational geography, marketing and promotions, customer service, and various travel career pathways. They will provide high-quality learning opportunities that meet the needs of our diverse student cohorts and actively contribute to the development and delivery of a responsive and high-quality Travel and Tourism curriculum and programmes. The candidate will offer flexible assessment opportunities that are realistic and relevant to the travel sector, in line with current industry standards. They will also be responsible for closely planning, monitoring, tracking, and recording student retention, progress, achievement, and success, while contributing to and maintaining the quality assurance of the programmes delivered.

Key Responsibilities
  • To teach on a range of programmes, providing high-quality learning opportunities that meet the needs of individual students/apprentices and groups in line with the College’s strategic priorities and objectives.
  • To provide flexible assessment opportunities and closely plan, monitor, track and record student/apprentice retention, achievement, and success.
  • To contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality, relevant curriculum and programmes. Curriculum Development responsibilities include:
    • Actively contributing to the development of new programmes within the curriculum area
    • Producing annual schemes of work and/or training plans for all subjects/programmes to be taught
To be successful in this role
  • Industry experience within the travel and tourism sector, with up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and practices and/or qualification in Travel & Tourism or related subject areas.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and changes within the travel and tourism sector, integrating this knowledge into teaching to enhance students' understanding of the industry.
  • Post-graduate Teaching Qualification (or willing to undertake studies towards a Level 5 diploma in Teaching. Full support from the College will be given for this). Demonstrate enthusiasm and passion for the subject and a genuine interest in helping young people achieve their potential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience planning, delivering, and assessing travel & tourism programmes is desirable.
  • Evidence of commitment to ongoing professional updating and development, both in the travel and teaching professions.
  • A professional approach with a commitment to excellence and quality.
  • Creates a welcoming and supportive classroom environment, making students feel comfortable and valued.
  • Commitment to setting high standards, expectations, and aspirations for both self and learners.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing learning and self-improvement to keep up to date with changes in the curriculum, industry trends, and teaching methodologies.
