Lecturer in Engineering (x3)

Keele University is undertaking a major strategic expansion of its engineering capability and invites applications for three Lecturers in Engineering. These appointments present an exceptional opportunity for motivated individuals, academics with strong professional backgrounds or industry professionals to help shape a new, high-quality engineering provision within a University already recognised for excellence in sustainability and interdisciplinary research.

Building on established significant research strengths in engineering and adjacent sciences where in REF2021 96% of Keele’s Engineering UoA 12 submission was assessed as world‑leading or internationally excellent, the University is launching a comprehensive portfolio of BEng and MEng degrees in Chemical, Civil, Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical, Mechatronics, and General Engineering in 2026.

The post holders will contribute to realising this new vision for engineering at Keele. You will play a key role in co‑developing and delivering high‑quality teaching, supporting student learning, and contributing to the growth of a welcoming and inclusive academic environment.

Keele’s engineering strategy is uniquely supported by campus‑scale research and innovation infrastructure. The 600‑acre campus hosts a large Low Carbon Energy Park, the Smart Energy Network Demonstrator, and the pioneering HyDeploy and HyDEX hydrogen initiatives, over £30 million of integrated low‑carbon and smart energy and digital assets forming a ‘living laboratory’ for research, innovation, and industrial collaboration. These platforms provide unique opportunities to develop interdisciplinary research programmes, secure funding, and build collaborative teams aligned with national and international priorities in clean energy/technology, advanced materials, and digital systems.

Appointees will be embedded within the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences, a research‑intensive environment with internationally leading expertise in materials science, renewable energy, astrophysics, and synthetic and analytical chemistry, and an award‑winning track record in teaching innovation. The School’s links with Keele’s Research Institutes for Sustainable Futures, Digital Society, and Global Health and Wellbeing offer a supporting ecosystem for multidisciplinary engagement and translational research.

The new engineering programmes are distinguished by Keele’s integrated Professional Engineering module spine, an innovative curriculum that combines core engineering specialisms with professional skills development, practical and digital engineering capability, and applied experience. Appointees will have the opportunity to shape this curriculum and embed industry‑aligned teaching from the start, collaborating with partners at regional, national, and multinational partners.

About You

  • A developing track record in research, scholarship, or industrial practice.

You will be committed to fostering an inclusive and collegiate academic community, supporting the growth of Keele’s engineering provision, and contributing to applied and industry‑engaged learning.

The University is committed to flexible working practices wherever possible. Please note that the starting salary will typically be at the bottom of the pay scale shown above.
