Learning Support Assistant

Position: Teaching Assistant/Learning Support Assistant
Location: Barnet, North London
Salary: £2,240‑£2,290
Contract Type: Full‑Time, Long‑Term, 8:30am‑4pm
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive two‑form entry primary school in Barnet. This Ofsted‑rated Outstanding school is committed to providing high‑quality education and tailored support for every child. You will play a vital role in supporting pupils across the primary age range, including those with Special Educational Needs, ensuring they make progress both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and small‑group support for pupils, including those with SEN and additional learning needs.
  • Assist with core subjects such as phonics, literacy, and numeracy, using scaffolding techniques to help pupils access learning.
  • Lead targeted intervention groups to accelerate progress in key areas.
  • Work closely with class teachers and the SEN team to implement personalised learning strategies and Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Support pupils with social and emotional development, promoting positive behaviour and resilience.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, feeding back to teachers and parents where appropriate.
  • Maintain a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
What We're Looking For
  • Previous classroom experience in a primary school setting (Reception or KS1 preferred).
  • Proven experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs, including speech and language delays, autism, or ADHD.
  • Knowledge of intervention strategies, scaffolding techniques, and differentiated learning approaches.
  • A valid Child Workforce DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Excellent communication skills, patience, and a genuine passion for supporting children's learning and development.
