Job summary

Novus, part of the LTE Group, is recruiting a Learning and Skills Worker to join the prison education team at HMP Oakwood. This permanent, full-time role offers 37 hours per week, focused on providing dedicated learning support to learners in a secure prison environment.

You will assess learning needs, deliver one-to-one and small group support, and work with colleagues to help learners gain confidence and essential skills, contributing to rehabilitation and successful reintegration.

Qualifications

  • Experience in conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups.
  • Ability to deliver one-to-one and small group support in a prison education setting.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and reporting against targets.
  • Hold Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy or be willing to work towards within an agreed timeframe.

Responsibilities

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Oakwood, working as a Learning and Skills Worker. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Oakwood is a Category C men's prison located in Featherstone, Staffordshire, near Wolverhampton. It is one of the largest and most modern prisons in the United Kingdom. The teams' aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison's mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Role Responsibilities

As a Learning and Skills Worker, you will provide dedicated learning support to learners within the prison education environment, helping them to develop confidence, build essential skills, and make positive progress towards their goals. You will work closely with teaching and support colleagues to identify individual learning needs, deliver tailored one-to-one and small group support, and contribute to an inclusive, safe, and motivating learning experience that encourages achievement and personal development.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Achieve performance and quality targets
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting
  • Demonstrate positive team working
  • Have experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups
  • Have experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities
  • Have experience of successful working in an effective multi-disciplinary team
  • Hold Hidden Difficulties Level 2 or equivalent (or be willing to work towards within an agreed timeframe)
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy (or be willing to work towards within an agreed timeframe)
  • 35 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays
  • 2 hours for wellbeing / personal development per week
