Job summary

Novus is seeking a Learning and Skills Worker to support learners at HMP Kirkham. This part-time role (18.5 hours per week) is based in Preston and offers a pro-rata annual salary of £25,878–£27,041 with competitive benefits.

You will assess and support learning, work within a multi-disciplinary team, and help learners achieve their targets in an inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups.
  • Experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities.
  • Proven track record of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate accurate and timely reporting and strong IT literacy.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group learning support to learners.
  • Contribute to creating an inclusive, nurturing learning environment.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Kirkham, working as a Learning Support Worker. This role is offered on a permanent, part‑time basis, working 18.5 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Kirkham is based in the village of Kirkham, Lancashire. It operates as a Cateogry D prison and supports a male population. the teams' aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Have experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups
  • Have experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities
  • Have experience of successfully working in an effective multi-disciplinary team
  • Proven track record of achieving performance targets
  • Demonstrate accurate and timely reporting
  • Demonstrate team working
  • Demonstrate efficient use of IT Systems to find and collate information
