Our client is a leading company, offering research services to the Drug Discovery sector. They collaborate with lead researchers and organisations to enhance the understanding of immunological, oncological, neurological and other disease areas. They are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and hard-working individual to join their Cellular Sciences Team as a Lead Scientist within advanced microscopy and molecular biology. If you have built an extensive career and are a microscopy and imaging expert looking to work on exciting pre-clinical and ex vivo drug discovery projects and want to further your career, then this could be the opportunity you have been waiting for.

The Role

This is a role for highly experienced Scientists in Advanced Light Microscopy and cell-lineengineering who hold a PhD (or Master’s) in a biologically focused discipline and an extensive track record in post-doctoral or (ideally!) industrial positions. As a Lead Scientist, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading, proposing and directing advanced microscopy projects relating to drug discovery and disease research.
  • Editing and creating cell lines through transduction, CRISPR and other molecular biology techniques.
  • Using various light microscopy techniques including super resolution microscopy, high content imaging, confocal imaging, multi-photon imaging, live cell imaging e.g. Incucyte etc.
  • Working on complex cellular models, tissues, fixed cells and live cell imaging projects.
  • Designing and implementing new image analysis pipelines.
  • Establishing strong collaborations and supporting business development as a technical expert to showcase what value imaging projects can have on drug discovery.
  • Liaising with external collaborators to provide project milestone updates and drive further research initiatives.
  • Keeping up to date with the latest super resolution and other light microscopy technological changes and suggesting new tools to be used internally.
Skills and Experience Needed:

Suitable applicants will have:

  • A PhD or Master’s – a significant portion of this PhD/MSc should be advanced light microscopy based. (essential)
  • Proven track record of delivering high-impact microscopy projects on-time and within budget (essential)
  • Many years’ of post PhD experience in running and using various types of advanced light microscopy including several of the following: Confocal microscopy, Super-Resolution (PTM, SIM, STED, STORM, PALM etc), live cell imaging, high content imaging (HCI) (essential)
  • Strong cell line editing / engineering experience (CRISPR, lentiviral transduction, transfection etc) (strongly desired)
  • Previous experience working with industry, either in a company, or working in close collaboration with an industry partner (essential)
  • Experience in line management (strongly desired)
  • An understanding of and experience in the disease research or drug discovery sector (essential)
  • A strong network in the microscopy field and collaboration experience with other experts in the field (essential)
  • Ex vivo tissue and cell preparation and analysis experience (essential)
  • Must have indefinite right to work in the UK without need for visa sponsorship (essential)
