Job summary

Stantec is seeking an experienced Principal EIA Consultant to lead environmental impact assessments across the UK, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and delivering high‑quality Environmental Statements. The role offers national coverage with hybrid working from any UK office.

You will guide projects through scoping, assessment, reporting and consent, while building client relationships and mentoring colleagues in a collaborative, sustainable development focused environment.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and environmental consultancy.
• Strong track record delivering and coordinating EIA projects and Environmental Statements.
• Good understanding of UK environmental assessment legislation, planning policy and guidance.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary inputs from engineers, planners and environmental specialists.
• Ability to identify environmental risks, mitigation strategies and provide commercially aware advice.
• Proven project management skills including programmes, budgets and resources.
• Experience building relationships with clients, regulators and stakeholders.
• Strong technical report writing and ability to explain complex environmental issues clearly.
• Experience supporting bids, tenders and business development.
• Mentoring and developing junior colleagues within a team.
• Proactive, collaborative mindset, capable of working across dispersed teams.
• Genuine interest in sustainable development and delivering positive environmental outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to delivery of EIAs, Environmental Statements and related documentation across sectors.
• Manage EIA projects from scoping through consultation, reporting and submission.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs to ensure robust, proportionate assessments.
• Provide technical advice on constraints, mitigation and consenting throughout projects.
• Prepare, review and quality-assure EIA reports and supporting documentation.
• Apply UK legislation and planning policy to inform project decisions and outcomes.
• Advise clients on strategy, planning considerations and environmental risk.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, regulators and stakeholders.
• Lead stakeholder engagement, consultations, workshops and meetings.
• Oversee project delivery, including programmes, budgets and resources.
• Identify opportunities to improve delivery and share best practices.
• Support business development through client engagement and bids.
