Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is hiring a senior engineering leader to drive the MGU integration in the Formula 1 hybrid powertrain. You will lead cross-disciplinary teams, oversee prototype and dyno testing, and ensure FIA compliance for high-performance e-motor systems.

With 8+ years in high-speed motors and a (preferred) Master’s/PhD, you’ll push boundaries in materials, manufacturing, and motor optimization while guiding a startup-like team within a legacy engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor's in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years in high-speed electric motors, motorsport ERS, or hybrid powertrains.
• Master's/PhD with 5+ years preferred.
• Hands-on motorsport prototyping and dynamometer testing experience.
• Knowledge of FIA F1 power unit regulations and GD&T standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-disciplinary teams (electromagnetics, mechanical design, thermal, controls) to optimize the MGU within the hybrid powertrain.
• Oversee prototype development, dyno testing programs, and data-driven iterations.
• Direct design reviews, FMEA processes, and FIA compliance.
• Drive R&D into next-gen materials, advanced manufacturing, and DFM/DFA for scalable e-motor production.
