Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer for Overhead Lines in London. You will lead high‑voltage OHL design efforts within the Transmission & Distribution team, guiding projects from concept through delivery and client engagement.

As a senior engineer, you’ll develop standards, support digital delivery approaches, and mentor others while contributing to important energy infrastructure programs with hybrid working options.

Qualifications

• Professionally qualified CEng Chartered Engineer with a recognized electrical engineering institution (e.g. the IET).
• A bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline, electrical engineering or power engineering.
• Experience delivering projects for transmission system operators such as National Grid, SSE and SPT in line with each operator’s standards. CDAE accreditation is highly advantageous.
• Project experience in overhead line engineering (ideally up to 400kV).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and engage clients to deliver technically challenging OHL design projects.
• Write proposals with timelines, resources, budgets and goals.
• Provide technical support throughout project implementation and public consultations.
• Perform PLS-CADD modelling, routing, structural analysis and sag-tension calculations.
• Conduct feasibility studies and conductor thermal ratings.
• Prepare design deliverables and reviews.
• Mentor team and support capability growth.
• Support business development, proposals and client presentations.
