Job summary

AECOM in London is seeking a Principal OHL Engineer to lead high‑voltage overhead line projects. You will work with our Transmission & Distribution team to deliver technically challenging OHL designs for up to 400 kV, engaging with clients and coordinating multi‑disciplinary inputs.

The role emphasises design excellence, from PLS‑CADD modelling and line routing to structural analysis, sag‑tension calculations, and specialist equipment selection.

Qualifications

• CEng Chartered Engineer with a recognized electrical engineering institution (e.g. IET).
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline (electrical/power).
• Experience delivering transmission projects for OSOs such as National Grid, SSE and SPT.
• Project experience in overhead line engineering up to 400 kV.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and engage with clients to deliver technically challenging OHL design projects.
• Provide project technical support and be responsible for design of transmission projects up to 400 kV.
• Perform PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structural analysis and loading trees; develop design criteria and sag–tension calculations.
• Contribute to feasibility studies, conductor ratings, and regulatory compliance.
• Originate and check engineering deliverables (designs, reports, proposals, drawings).
• Conduct internal quality checks of drawings and calculations.
• Support in proposals, timelines, resources, budgets, and project objectives.
