Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal OHL Design Engineer to lead high-voltage overhead line projects within its Transmission & Distribution team in the UK. This senior role focuses on technical excellence, client engagement, and delivering complex OHL schemes across major energy projects.

You will drive engineering standards, support strategic client interactions, and mentor the cable systems team while contributing to innovation and digital delivery approaches.

Qualifications

• Chartered engineer with a recognised electrical engineering institution (e.g. IET).
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
• Experience delivering transmission projects for TSOs (e.g. National Grid, SSE, SPT).
• Overhead line engineering experience up to 400 kV.

Responsibilities

• Lead and engage with clients on technically challenging OHL design projects.
• Write proposals detailing timeline, resources, budget, objectives, and goals.
• Provide technical input through project implementation, planning, and public consultations.
• Perform design activities: PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structural analysis, sag–tension calculations.
