Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer - Overhead Lines in London, UK. This senior role drives technical excellence, leading complex high-voltage OHL projects and mentoring the team within the Transmission & Distribution group.

You will oversee design deliverables, support business development, and contribute to standards and innovation while working in a flexible hybrid environment with access to AECOM’s resources and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Professionally qualified CEng Chartered Engineer with a recognized electrical engineering institution (e.g. the IET).
• A bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline, electrical engineering or power engineering.
• Experience delivering projects for transmission system operators such as National Grid, SSE and SPT in line with each operator’s standards. CDAE accreditation is highly advantageous.
• Project experience in overhead line engineering (ideally up to 400kV).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and engage with our clients to deliver technically challenging OHL design projects.
• Write proposals outlining all project details including timeline, resources, budget, objectives, and goals.
• Provide technical support throughout project implementation, statutory planning, and public consultation events.
• Hold responsibility for assigned design activities related to the overhead line including PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structural analysis and loading, sag-tension calculations, insulator/conductor considerations, and related design criteria.
