Overview

There will be one permanent and one secondment position available for this role. Part of this position is being offered as a secondment. Accordingly, you are required to consult with your manager and obtain approval prior to submitting your application.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within a forward thinking palliative medicine department as a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse on the Nightingale Macmillan Unit. The area has 21 beds, with the flexibility to increase to 24 beds in times of pressure to support the trust, and looks after patients nearing the end of their lives.

Role

We are looking for an individual who has demonstrable experience of leading and contributing to the development of an inpatient team and who is committed to delivering high standards of holistic care, and must have a caring and empathetic attitude. The individual must be a positive role model to the junior staff and be able to demonstrate their ability to have advanced communication skills. Please note you will be required to work both long days, nights and weekends. If you feel this is the role for you please get in touch to have an informal discussion.

Responsibilities
  • To support the Senior Sister in the day-to-day management of the unit and to ensure the delivery of patient-centred, clinically effective holistic care is provided in a safe and caring environment.
  • Provide specific clinical knowledge and advice to the multi-professional team and take into account all aspects of Clinical Governance; promote and develop the use of evidence-based practice to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Provide supervision of the delivery of care by junior staff, allocate clinical workload as required, respond to changing clinical situations, and provide necessary advice and support to maintain high standards of patient care.
  • Act as a role model at all times and ensure that all team members and visitors give high priority to infection prevention and control policies and procedures to maintain a safe clinical environment.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff and comply with the NMC standards for mentors.
  • Maintain accurate, legible and timely records of patient care using the current patient recording system.
  • Work will include long days, nights and weekends as part of the role.
