Job summary

Red Lion Hotel in Portsmouth is seeking an overnight Night Porter to welcome guests, assist late arrivals and maintain a safe, clean front-of-house. You'll work 11pm–7am (site-dependent) and be the first point of contact for check-ins after hours.

You will handle safety procedures, respond to inquiries, and help prepare breakfast areas as needed. DBS check required; flexibility and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Passion for guest care and delivering a warm welcome.
• Excellent verbal communication and professional demeanor.
• Ability to work independently and manage lone-working shifts.
• Strong attention to detail and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Be the first point of contact for late arrivals and walk-ins.
• Provide a warm, friendly welcome to all guests.
• Assist with front-of-house cleaning, breakfast areas, and meeting room setup.
• Ensure guest and business safety and security at all times.
• Evacuate guests and team safely in the event of a fire.
• Answer telephone inquiries and resolve guest complaints to ensure a great stay.

This is an overnight position, with shifts typically ranging from 11pm to 7am (depending on the site).

Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as part of the recruitment process.

WHAT YOU'LL DO IN THIS ROLE:

• Be the first point of contact when checking in late arrivalsand walk-ins.
• Ensure a warm, friendly and genuine welcome to all guests.
• The role is varied and, depending on your site, may include:cleaning tasks within the front of house, external and breakfast areas, settingup the meeting room(s) and breakfast for the next day
• You’ll ensure guest and business safety and security is toppriority at all times.
• In the event of a fire, evacuating all guests and team fromthe business safely and quickly
• Answer telephone enquiries and deal with guestcomplaints to ensure everyone enjoys their stay.
