Job summary

Hawes Inn in Scotland is seeking a Night Porter to welcome guests, manage late check-ins, and maintain a safe, comfortable environment overnight. The role may involve simple front-of-house tasks, breakfast setup, and ensuring smooth operations during night hours.

The ideal candidate will be independent, customer-focused, and able to work calmly under pressure, with a strong eye for detail and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Hospitality/front-of-house experience preferred.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong guest-service mindset and professionalism under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Be the first point of contact for late arrivals and walk-ins.
• Provide a warm, friendly welcome to guests.
• Handle front-of-house tasks like cleaning areas and setting up breakfast for the next day.
• Ensure guest and business safety and security at all times.
• Lead evacuation procedures in case of fire if required.
• Answer calls and resolve guest queries and complaints to ensure a positive stay.

This is an overnight position, with shifts typically ranging from 11pm to 7am (depending on the site).

Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as part of the recruitment process.

WHAT YOU'LL DO IN THIS ROLE:

• Be the first point of contact when checking in late arrivals and walk-ins.
• Ensure a warm, friendly and genuine welcome to all guests.
• The role is varied and, depending on your site, may include: cleaning tasks within the front of house, external and breakfast areas, setting up the meeting room(s) and breakfast for the next day
• You’ll ensure guest and business safety and security is top priority at all times.
• In the event of a fire, evacuating all guests and team from the business safely and quickly
• Answer telephone enquiries and deal with guest complaints to ensure everyone enjoys their stay.
