Job summary

Gateshead Council is seeking an Advisory Teacher (Cognition and Learning) to support schools and learners across Gateshead. You will use your specialist knowledge to provide expert advice, assessment and training to strengthen inclusive practice and raise pupil outcomes.

Joining the High Incidence Needs Team, you will collaborate with parents, carers and professionals to identify barriers to learning and deliver high‑quality training while maintaining safeguarding and record-keeping standards.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status is required.
• Accredited Test User Qualification (Level B) or CCET is required.
• Experience supporting children with SEND to assess needs and review progress.
• Knowledge of SEND legislation, safeguarding, and inclusive practice.

Responsibilities

• Act as a SEND specialist, providing expert advice to schools and families.
• Support schools to develop outstanding inclusive practice and high‑quality teaching.
• Use specialist assessment skills to identify barriers and recommend strategies.
• Prepare clear feedback and detailed reports for educational settings.
• Build positive relationships with children, families and professionals.
• Deliver high‑quality training and professional development across settings.
• Contribute specialist guidance to EHCPs and reviews.
• Maintain safeguarding standards and accurate record-keeping.
