Rise Technical Recruitment is seeking a Software Engineer (PHP & JavaScript) in Bristol. The role is hybrid, with about one day a week in the office, and you’ll own core internal systems used across operations, analytics and the B2B portal.

You’ll work in a small, collaborative team, shipping business-critical software in a fast-moving international trading business. Strong PHP (Symfony/Laravel) and modern JavaScript skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong PHP in Symfony or Laravel in enterprise or business-critical environments.
• Solid understanding of object oriented design and SOLID principles.
• Experience building and testing API-driven backend systems with unit and functional tests.
• Comfortable with Vue or React in a full-stack workflow.
• Able to own tasks in a small, collaborative team close to the commercial side.
• Nice to have PostgreSQL, Dockerised apps, AWS and AI tool usage to improve productivity.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain backend-heavy features across internal systems for operations, reporting, analytics and the B2B portal.
• Collaborate with the Head of Development to shape design, architecture and technical direction.
• Write clean, testable PHP using Symfony with strong unit and functional test coverage.
• Contribute to shared standards, code reviews, CI and deployment practices, including AI tool adoption.
• Work with business users across sales and operations to translate requirements into pragmatic solutions.
• Evolve the platform and infrastructure using PostgreSQL, Clickhouse, Vue.js, AWS and Docker.
