Job summary

Join AECOM's Transmission & Distribution team as a Cables System Design Engineer, working on HV/EHV projects across the UK. You will contribute from feasibility through to commissioning, supporting with complex cable designs, routes, thermal and electromagnetic analyses, and integration with civil and substation teams.

You will gain exposure to FEED activities, third‑party inspections, and interface with manufacturers to ensure IEC, CIGRÉ, and NG‑TP standards compliance.

Qualifications

• FEED experience is essential.
• Electrical Engineering Degree or HNC in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related discipline.
• Some experience in Cable System Design Engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects.
• Familiar with IEC, CIGRÉ, and NG-TPs.
• Experience with CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS and mechanical simulation tools.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the delivery of full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility to commissioning.
• Review complex HV cable system designs, route development, burial risk assessments, and thermal/mechanical calculations.
• Carry out cable rating and system studies including ampacity and short circuit analysis.
• Support installation feasibility studies and FAT/SAT activities.
• Coordinate with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure standards compliance.
