Job summary

AECOM is hiring Cable System Design Engineers to work on onshore HV/EHV projects across the UK and Ireland. You will contribute through feasibility, concept, and detailed design, supporting installation supervision and commissioning with a focus on safety and regulatory standards.

Role involves route design, engineering calculations, and interface with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.

Qualifications

Electrical Engineering Degree or HNC in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related discipline.
FEED experience is essential.
Experience with HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects.
Experience in regulated, quality‑assured environments, preferably with National Grid experience.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the delivery of full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility studies to detailed design and commissioning.
Support review of complex HV cable system designs, including route development, burial risk assessments, thermal and electromagnetic calculations.
Undertake cable rating and system studies including ampacity, short circuit forces, thermal stability, and EMI analysis.
Carry out cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
Gain exposure to civil, structural, substation and OHL teams for integrated solutions.
Support senior team members with third-party inspections and FAT/SAT, installation and commissioning activities.
Interface with manufacturers and contractors to verify compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, NG‑TPs and other standards.
