Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Cables System Design Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution team in the UK. You will help deliver full lifecycle cable engineering from feasibility to commissioning across HV/EHV projects for National Grid and other clients.

You will work in a hybrid role across design, installation supervision and commissioning, collaborating with civil, substation and OHL teams, and applying IEC, CIGRÉ and NG-TP standards.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering Degree or HNC in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• FEED experience is essential for HV/EHV projects.
• Experience in regulated, quality-assured environments, preferably National Grid.
• Basic understanding of onshore cable routing, burial risk assessments, and cable analyses.
• Experience with IEC, CIGRÉ, and NG-TPs standards is beneficial.
• Experience with CYMCAP, WinCable, AutoCAD, Revit, GIS or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility to commissioning.
• Review complex HV cable system designs including route development and risk assessments.
• Carry out cable rating, ampacity, short-circuit and EMI analyses.
• Perform cable pulling, jointing, installation feasibility studies.
• Collaborate with civil, substation and OHL teams for integrated solutions.
• Support third-party inspections, FAT/SAT, installation and commissioning activities.
• Interface with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to verify compliance with standards.
